Curated experiences highlighting the local surrounds of beautiful Lennox Head to make the most of your time here.
Lake Ainsworth is located just north of town, nestled about 50 metres behind the sand dunes. This freshwater lagoon is naturally discoloured by the tea-tree tannins that leach from the surrounding trees, giving the water its distinctive dark hue. The lake is a popular spot for a relaxed day out, featuring free electric BBQs and plenty of picnic tables. The tea-tree–infused water is also believed by many to have health-giving and rejuvenating properties, adding to its local charm and appeal.
Whale watching is a must-do experience at Pat Morton Lookout, located at the top of the Lennox Headland. From this vantage point, whales can often be seen breaching and playing during their annual migration. A walking track extends east along the headland, leading to several other excellent viewing spots. Whales pass by Lennox Head twice a year—in June and July as they migrate north to warmer waters, and again in September and October as they head back south with their calves.
The Lennox National Surfing Reserve includes the renowned surf breaks at Flat Rock, Boulder Beach, Lennox Point, and Lennox Main Beach. These iconic spots have been surfed by thousands since the late 1950s, and they meet all the criteria for official Reserve status, recognising their cultural, environmental, and sporting significance.
Take a stroll along the scenic boardwalk that leads all the way up to Lennox Point Lookout—the views are well worth it! If you're feeling adventurous, you can continue the walk over to Boulders Beach. There’s also a great footpath starting at Rutherford Street, which wraps around the Point and is perfect for a relaxed walk or taking the kids out for a bike ride.
